Dr. Richard Doty Memorial Page

In Memoriam – Dr. Richard Doty. As reported by CTCC President Bill McKivor in 2013, “Dr. Doty is a familiar name in the CTCC, he was the first president of the club, and has written many books on our tokens, including The Soho Mint and the Industrialization of Money in 1998. He was also the curator of the National Money Museum at the Smithsonian, but was always available to talk about tokens and life. One of the good guys, Richard passed away June 2, 2013. His wife Cindi called me with the news, and though I knew it was coming, it was a real blow. Dick had been battling cancer for some time, and had made some progress, but they did not get it in time. He was a very good friend to me, and to all in the CTCC, he shall be missed terribly. Not much else one can say —“

A CTCC meeting was held at the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Chicago/Rosemont, Ill., August 13-17, 2013. The meeting was on Thursday, August 15 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friends also gathered for a reception and tribute to Dr. Richard Doty on Saturday, August 17, at 9 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. Doty also received the ANA Lifetime Achievement Award (posthumously) at the ANA banquet.
